Rudbeckia hirta 'Sahara', commonly known as Brown-Eyed Susan, is a distinctive selection of a native wildflower with single and semi-double blooms in muted, vintage tones. Flowers come in a blend of soft rose, copper, caramel, dusty pink and pale yellow, each centered by a dark cone, so no two plants look quite alike. It blooms heavily from summer into fall and makes an outstanding cut flower. Pollinators visit the blooms, and finches enjoy the seed heads if left standing. Rudbeckia hirta is often short-lived but readily reseeds in the garden. Plant it in full sun with average, well-drained soil in borders, cottage gardens and cutting gardens.
